My Approach

With over 15 years of experience as an in-home / in-school behavior consultant, outpatient therapist and child advocate, I have developed a uniquely integrative approach that combines behavioral therapy with traditional talk therapy. This approach can be very effective in treating behavior concerns, mental health challenges, and relationship issues all at the same time. Treating all three aspects at once often makes for a comprehensive and insightful therapy experience.

In a nutshell, therapy with me is…

Positive and Accepting:

Whatever a child’s struggles might be, I want them to know three things: they are interesting, they are capable, and they are good at their core. With compassion and care, I highlight their strengths, build up their sense of personal power, and help them develop more effective communication skills. In partnership with you, we will design a clear map for reaching our goals. New strategies will gradually replace unhelpful ones until we see progress unfold and gain momentum.

Creative and Collaborative:

Your child's perspective is important to the process, as is yours. We will work together to make sure your child's treatment plan is both realistic AND inspired.

Integrative:

By collaborating as needed with schools, psychologists, psychiatrists, education advocates, and pediatricians, I help you and your child feel supported beyond our sessions. If your child has an IEP or 504 Plan, I am happy to read it and offer insights and suggestions. If you think they may need a plan, I can help you get started.
